Arguineguin is located on the south
west coast of Gran Canaria between Playa del Ingles and Puerto
Rico.Until recently Arguineguin was
more of a canarian fishing village than a tourist resort, but
this has changed. Now there are several large tourist hotels in
the town, for instance Marino I, Dorado Beach, Club Puerto
Atlantico, Sunwing Resort Arguineguin, Green Beach Hotel and
Dunas La Canaria.
But unlike
resorts like
Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico,
Arguineguin still has some of that old Canarian
charm left.
The
Norwegians have especially
taken Arguineguin into
their hearts, and the Norwegian
population is quite large in the
winter time. You even find a Norwegian school,
Norwegian church and a Norwegian
health center in
or just outside of Arguineguín.
And in close by resort
Patalavaca there is
a large Norwegian-owned
timeshare holiday resort
named Anfi del Mar.
Beaches
Arguineguin has
several beaches. To the right you can see the
most central beach with dark lava sand. The
beach is
close to bars,
shops and restaurants. The very beautiful
man-made beach of Patalavaca can be reached on
foot.
Restaurants and nightlife
There are several bars
and restaurants in Arguineguin, many of the
latter specialising in fresh fish.
The evenings are very quiet, but a more vivid nightlife is found in
Puerto Rico only ten minutes away in taxi.
Activities
There are two shopping centres in Arguineguin. The newest
and most interesting is the La Marea shopping centre on the
main road.
Close to La Marea you will
find the older Ancora Centre which spreads out over a
bewildering number of levels and houses small shops and
cafés.
The busiest day in the week is
Tuesday, when Arguineguín hosts the largest market on Gran
Canaria. To avoid the traffic, take the ferry service from Puerto Rico or Puerto
de Mogán to visit the market and have a stroll around the picturesque harbour.
