Puerto de Mogan, on the south-west
coast, is probably the most picturesque resort in Gran Canaria.
The purpose-built resort is a
blend of fishing village,
marina and upmarket holiday resort. The low-rise houses has a
village-like appeal and the
beautiful gardens are bursting with bougainvillea, palm trees,
hibiscus and other colourful plants.
Much of the harbour and shopping
area is pedestrianised, which makes it quieter to wander around.
A lovely canal runs through the resort giving Puerto de Mogan a
touch of Venice.
The beach
The gently shelving beach of Puerto de Mogan has golden
sand imported from the Sahara.
The beach is well protected against waves making it ideal for
children.
Water sports include jet skis,
parascending and banana boat. There is also a diving centre
offering PADI courses.
Restaurants and nightlife
Puerto de Mogan
has many restaurants, especially in the
harbour area. Many of them serving
locally caught fish.
The resort
is ideal for those seeking peace and
quiet in the evenings, although visitors
will find some bars and a disco.
Activities
One of the main
attractions in Puerto de Mogan is the yellow submarine offering
visitors a trip to the underwater world.
Deep-sea fishing boats offers the
opportunity to catch tunas and marlins. If you are not into
fishing, there are dolphin-spotting trips and ferry trips to
Puerto Rico and Arguineguín.
On Fridays there is a very
popular market which brings in tourists from all over the island.
